Ingredients

  • 2 cups self-rising flour
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1 tablespoon dry yeast
  • 3 cloves garlic minced
  • 8 tablespoons butter softened
  • 1/2 tablespoon salt
  • 6 tablespoons fresh parsley chopped (or dried parsley if preferred)

Instructions

  • In a medium bowl, mix the flour, yeast, and salt together until well combined.
  • Add the buttermilk and 1 tablespoon of the butter, stirring with a spatula until a ball of dough forms. Cover the dough and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
  • Once the dough has risen, transfer it to a floured surface. Roll it out into a rectangle roughly 16 by 10 inches.
  • In a separate bowl, combine the remaining butter, minced garlic, and parsley. Spread this garlic butter mixture evenly across the rolled-out dough.
  • Roll the dough into a log shape. Slice the log lengthwise down the middle and gently braid the two halves together. Coil the braid into a swirl shape, like a snake, with each end coiled in opposite directions.
  • Place the coiled dough into a medium-sized loaf pan. Bake at 350°F for 35 minutes or until golden brown.
